Christspiracy – how would Jesus kill an animal?
Released in the UK 20th March 2024
Christspiracy was co-directed by Kip Anderson, the guy who made Cowspiracy and Seaspiracy, and fellow documentary maker Kameron Waters. The idea for the documentary came when Kameron, a gospel musician, dared ask the question, ‘How would Jesus kill an animal?’
This led to the documentary makers boldly interviewing priests, theologists, journalists, and activists, all in their quest to answer this question.
This film exposes the hypocrisy of animal cruelty in religion. It doesn’t just examine Christianity, it also touches on the other major religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, etc.
There are a few shocking revelations along the way, but none so much as the final theory – could it be true?
How could God kill an animal, let alone Jesus?
I struggled for years with religion, having been brought up with a staunch Christian aunt. I have heard many stories of cruelty and meanness within the Christian church, from friends, family, and in the media. This eventually made me question my own beliefs until about five years ago. Then I decided I was more of a Humanist with a gravitation toward some Buddhist beliefs.
To me, religion is a questionable and emotive subject for many reasons. For one, I could never understand the concept of sacrifice as a religious practice. I was once called ‘spiritually dead’ by a Jehovah’s Witness for admitting this. But why would God (if he exists?) want to sanction the killing of anyone, let alone an animal, so needlessly? Aren’t we all supposed to be God’s children? Why would you hurt or put to suffer any of your children? That is my question, not just as a vegan but as a compassionate human being.
Let’s just say after watching this film I was shocked at some people’s reasoning and behaviour towards certain practices.
This film is a must watch!
This film is a must if you are interested in vegan documentaries, and a real must if you harness any amount of spiritualism.
And if you are worried that the film may question or indeed insult your own beliefs, without trying to give too much away, it doesn’t necessarily put any religion per se in a bad light. The film reveals some of the supposed ‘excusable’ practices within religious faiths, as practiced by certain individuals.
I can’t tell you any more than that! The film is brilliant.
