Hogwashed: The Free-range Façade
New documentary by Joey Carbstrong
This brilliant new documentary by the UK-based Australian activist exposes the cruelty that goes on in a Norfolk free-range pig farm. It is a spin-off from his earlier documentary, Pignorant. Believe me, it’s a shocker!
The free-range façade
Joey is informed of sightings of dead pigs spotted on the free-range pig farm near a Tesco supermarket. He and his partner investigate, only to find the horror of animal cruelty actively happening on this farm. This film exposes the meaningless of the RSPCA assured and Red Tractor assured schemes.
Warning: Some graphic content
There is some graphic content in this film, and it did make me swear and cry, but don’t let that stop you from watching it. Turn away from the bad bits if you have to. Joey wants this documentary to get as much exposure as possible. The more we watch it, the higher up the ranks it goes on YouTube. And hell knows it needs exposure as it’s a living hell for all the pigs waiting to die for the meat industry, whether factory-farmed or free-range.
I always thought that free-range meant the animals were kept in ‘Disney-film’ type conditions. It couldn’t be further from the truth with this farm. This particular farm is part of a chain that has other sites situated all over Norfolk and Suffolk.
Ironically, free-range products cost more to the consumer to supposedly allow financially for better animal welfare conditions.
Free-range – there’s no humane way to die…
Being vegan myself I think the whole meat industry is a big animal cruelty fest. Rearing animals to be slaughtered is cruel, even in purportedly desirable conditions. You’ll never convince me that there is a humane way of killing any animal.
Is this farm an isolated case, or is this behaviour common practice on free-range farms? I think it is a more common practice, it usually is when money is involved. People cut corners when running businesses, and unless they really care about the animals (like a vegan) the animals are likely to suffer in some way. You may agree or disagree this is just my opinion.
Without more investigation we’ll never really know. I’m sure in his quest to end animal cruelty Joey Carbstrong won’t let it rest there.
